Heavy Rains Cause Devastating Landslide in Odisha; 18 Villages Cut Off

A major landslide following heavy rains has isolated 18 villages in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, officials report. The landslide occurred near Tumba Padar village on Bayapadar ghat road within the Nakamamudi gram panchayat of Korukonda block on Saturday.

Additionally, incidents of landslides disrupting vehicular traffic have been reported from Malkangiri, and Koraput’s Lamataput and Nandapur areas, amid continued heavy rainfall. The Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office confirmed these incidents.

SRC Satyabrata Sahu has been in discussions with the Malkangiri collector, as road clearance efforts proceed, aiming to restore traffic soon. The IMD forecasts continuous heavy rain in Odisha until July 31 under the influence of a low-pressure area. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.
