Braving adverse weather and difficult terrain, 40 rescue teams resumed operations in landslide-hit Wayanad district for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, officials confirmed.

The early morning search received a boost with the completion of a 190-foot Bailey bridge, facilitating the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances to the worst-affected areas of Mundakkai and Chooralmala hamlets.

Columns with dog squads commenced operations at 7 am. The search is meticulously planned across six zones: Attamala, Aaranmala, Mundakkai, Punchirimattam, Vellarimala village, and the riverbank. Joint teams include army, NDRF, DSG, Coast Guard, Navy, MEG, and local personnel.

A three-pronged focus targets the Chaliyar River with the help of local swimming experts, while a police helicopter and joint teams of the Coast Guard, Navy, and Forest Department search for bodies. Official sources report significant human casualties, with 190 confirmed dead and over 200 missing. Advanced technology and additional canine units from Tamil Nadu are en route to assist.
