Himachal Struggles as Cloudbursts Trigger Catastrophic Flash Floods

Rescue operations continue in Himachal Pradesh as authorities scramble to locate over 45 missing individuals following devastating flash floods triggered by cloudbursts across three districts. Officials confirm that 33 people, who were stranded at the site of a power project, have been safely rescued.

The incident, which struck districts including Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla, has resulted in the deaths of five people. Unprecedented floods have also wreaked havoc on infrastructure, with roads and schools severely affected. The Deputy Commissioner of Kullu reported that individuals trapped at the Malana II power project have been successfully rescued by home guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.

Political leaders have expressed deep concern, with BJP MP Kangana Ranaut urging swift government intervention. The Prime Minister and Home Minister have pledged support, emphasizing that relief efforts are a top priority. Drones are being employed to search for the missing, as residents recount the terrifying experience of escaping the raging waters. Since the monsoon's onset, the state has witnessed significant devastation, totaling an estimated loss of Rs 649 crore and resulting in 73 fatalities.
