The Kerala government on Saturday announced plans to establish a township to rehabilitate those displaced by the catastrophic landslide in the Mundakkai region of Wayanad district.

During a press conference, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared detailed plans for a comprehensive and swift rehabilitation process. Offers for assistance have come from various global entities, and a 'Help for Wayanad' cell, led by Joint Land Revenue Commissioner A Geetha IAS, will coordinate the efforts. Additionally, the Education Minister will ensure that children's education continues uninterrupted.

Highlighting the support received, Vijayan mentioned that Rahul Gandhi will construct 100 houses, with Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan overseeing 25. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also pledged 100 houses. Contributions were further bolstered by offers from Sobha Realty Group and Kozhikode-based Business Club to build 50 houses each. Donations to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) have flowed in from celebrities and senior politicians. With rescue operations continuing, the death toll has reached 215, with around 206 people still missing.
