Army personnel were deployed in an inundated residential area in Pune, Maharashtra, following the release of excess water from the Khadakwasla dam on Sunday, officials confirmed.

The fire brigade department evacuated several residents from the Ekta Nagar area as a precautionary measure, an official noted.

Officials from the irrigation department reported that 35,000 cusecs of water were discharged from the dam over the weekend, following heavy rainfall in the catchment area over the last fortnight.

A defense press update stated, "Pune DM has requested one column of the Indian Army to be prepositioned at Ekta Nagar due to the excess water being released from the Khadakwasla Dam. The Army column is currently mobilizing."

The Army personnel were stationed at Dwarka Society on Sinhgad Road where water accumulation was significant. Notably, on July 25, several areas along the Mutha river on Sinhgad Road were marooned after the dam's water release amid heavy rains.
