Drones Propel Rescue Efforts in Landslide-Hit Wayanad

Authorities are deploying drones to deliver food packets to regions in Wayanad devastated by landslides, where traditional methods cannot reach.

This initiative aims to sustain hundreds of personnel working tirelessly in hazardous terrain, with drones capable of carrying food for up to 10 people at a time.

A rapid food and water delivery system has been established to support rescue workers, providing logistical aid to those operating heavy machinery like Hitachi and JCB equipment.

Food for the rescuers is prepared at the Community Kitchen at Meppadi Polytechnic under the supervision of the Food Safety Department. The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association is preparing around 7,000 food packets daily for distribution.

As of Sunday evening, authorities had recovered 221 bodies and 166 body parts from the landslide that occurred on July 30. The number of missing individuals has reduced to 180 after successful phone contact with some of them.
