Tragic Collapse: Woman Killed, Several Injured in Varanasi House Collapse

An unfortunate event unfolded in Varanasi when two aged houses near the Kashi Vishwanath temple collapsed, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to several individuals, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Varanasi Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma reported that the incident took place at Khoya Gali in the Chowk area early on Tuesday. 'Two houses collapsed. One owned by Mr. Gupta, with nine occupants, and the other by Mr. Yadav. While occupants of the second house evacuated safely, seven people from the first house had to be rescued from the debris,' Sharma explained.

Among those rescued, one woman succumbed to her injuries, while others are undergoing treatment. A woman police constable was injured in the jaw. The rescue mission is concluded, and efforts are focused on clearing the debris and restoring water and electricity supplies to the affected area. The houses appeared to be over 70 years old, and the second and third floors suffered the most damage.
