At least 28 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Sunday as north and northwest India endured heavy downpours. The severe weather triggered landslides, house collapses, and a dam breach that inundated several villages in Haryana.
In Jammu and Kashmir, officials suspended the annual Amarnath Yatra after continuous heavy rains in the Amarnathji area. Rajasthan faced the brunt with 16 recorded deaths in two days and unparalleled rainfall in Karauli district. In Punjab’s Hoshiarpur, nine people, including eight of a family, drowned when their vehicle was swept away by a swollen seasonal rivulet.
Delhi and Gurugram experienced waterlogging, causing traffic disruptions. Himachal Pradesh faced landslides and flash floods affecting key infrastructure. Meanwhile, a roof collapse in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun led to two deaths. Officials in Karnataka issued a flood alert downstream of Pampa Sagar dam due to a broken gate.
