Significant Earthquake Shakes Jordan-Syria Border

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Jordan-Syria border on Friday, reported the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Initially recorded as 5.2, the earthquake was felt across Syria and Lebanon, with citizens in Salamiyah city particularly affected. Earlier, similar tremors caused panic and injuries but no casualties.

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck the Jordan-Syria border on Friday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.

The quake, initially recorded as 5.2, occurred at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). Residents across Syria and Lebanon felt the tremor.

Syria's National Earthquake Centre confirmed that the earthquake was felt by residents of Salamiyah city in western Syria. This follows a similar 4.8 magnitude earthquake earlier in the week that caused panic and numerous injuries but no fatalities.
