Bihar Bridges and Culverts: Urgent Repairs and New Initiatives Announced

Bihar officials have identified over 350 small bridges and culverts needing urgent repairs. Following a review meeting, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar initiated the 'Mukhyamantri Setu Nirman Yojna' to enhance rural road connectivity. Immediate repairs and surveys for nearly 1,000 structures will be undertaken, with a focus on infrastructure development.

More than 350 small bridges and culverts across Bihar require urgent repairs, according to officials, who raised the issue at a Rural Works Department (RWD) review meeting on Friday, attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The meeting highlighted the need to survey nearly 1,000 similar structures for necessary action. In response, the CM launched the 'Mukhyamantri Setu Nirman Yojna' to construct small bridges in rural areas to enhance road connectivity.

The CM ordered immediate repairs of damaged bridges and culverts, emphasizing the importance of proper inspection and maintenance to prevent collapses. The state government is also considering increasing the sanction limit for the construction of small bridges, giving more autonomy to District Magistrates.
