Mumbai and its neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts, along with other parts of Maharashtra, are forecasted to receive heavy rainfall over the next four to five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Friday, the Met office issued an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts starting from August 24. The IMD also extended the orange alert to Pune and Satara districts in western Maharashtra, as well as Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gondia districts of Vidarbha.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an SMS alert to citizens, advising caution as heavy rainfall could exceed 64.5 mm within 24 hours and disrupt normal life, including causing flooding in low-lying areas. A yellow alert warning of thunderstorms with gusty winds has also been issued for several districts in Maharashtra.
