Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the first double-decker flyover in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Wednesday, connecting a viaduct for Metro Line 9 in Mira Bhayandar, Thane district.
The one-km-long structure integrates a metro viaduct and a road flyover, significantly improving traffic flow and easing congestion in Mira Road, officials reported.
The flyover, an extension of Metro Line 9 from Andheri to Mumbai International Airport and Dahisar to Mira Road, marks a modern achievement for Mumbai. Built using advanced technology, it aims to save up to 10 minutes of travel time and reduce fuel consumption. The project faced challenges, including relocating a main power line, to deliver a faster, safer, and more convenient journey for commuters.
