India recorded around 16% more rainfall than normal in August, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Northwest India saw 253.9 mm, marking the second-highest August rainfall since 2001.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra reported 287.1 mm of rainfall in August compared to the normal 248.1 mm. The nation received 749 mm of rainfall since the monsoon began on June 1, surpassing the norm of 701 mm.

Regions in the northeast, including Kerala and Vidarbha in Maharashtra, experienced deficient rainfall. Despite no break monsoon conditions in August, the Madden-Julian Oscillation was particularly active, contributing to the heightened precipitation.
