Heavy Rainfall Expected in Odisha's 20 Districts Due to Low-Pressure Area

Odisha is set to experience heavy rainfall across 20 districts in the coming days, driven by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Weather forecasts predict torrential rain, ranging between 7 to 11 cm, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places within these districts on Wednesday. The low-pressure area formed due to a cyclonic circulation over the central Bay of Bengal, extending to the northwest off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.

The system is expected to trigger significant rainfall until September 26 across districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and others. Isolated thunderstorms with lightning are also predicted for Nuapada, Kandhamal, and other areas. Over the past 24 hours, Odisha recorded an average rainfall of 19.7 mm, with Binjharpur in Jajpur district witnessing the highest downpour at 105 mm.
