During the mid of last December, Devdiscourse reported Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company had suspended the water supply in Chirundu town as the recommended standpoint was below 5ntus. Now Zambia’s capital-based commercial water utility company has revealed that some parts of Lusaka have experienced cases of isolated water contamination.

According to Jonathan Kampata, the managing director of Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company, the contamination was not only instant, but it also affected parts of Ibex Hills, Nyumba Yanga and Malata area near Kabulonga, as reported by Lusaka Times.

While addressing the journalists in Zambia’s capital city, Jonathan Kampata elaborated that the contamination was not from Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company water supply but from a leaking pipe. He said that the water utility firm in association with other multiple government agencies has expanded surveillance of water supply in the affected areas. He opined that the chlorination of water supply has also been augmented by the water utility firm.

According to him, this was discovered after investigations were carried out on collected samples. And those samples were tested and the results show that the water is not contaminated. Despite such results, he has urged the residents in the affected areas to adopt precautionary measures such as boiling water and emptying water tanks before refilling them.
