Tragedy Strikes: Fatal Collapse in Historic Mumbai Building

A 36-year-old man, Sagar Shivaji Nikam, died following a structural collapse in a five-storey building in Mumbai. Part of the second floor fell onto lower floors. Emergency services, including fire brigade and police, responded. The building, recently repaired, seemed in good condition before the incident.

Tragedy unfolded on Thursday morning in Mumbai as a five-storey building's floor slabs gave way, claiming the life of 36-year-old Sagar Shivaji Nikam. The catastrophic event occurred at the United Chambers building near Shalimar Hotel on Grant Road.

Authorities reported that segments of the second floor collapsed onto the first, which then crumbled down to the ground floor. Nikam was swiftly extracted from the debris and rushed to JJ Hospital, where medical personnel declared him dead on arrival.

The rescue operation engaged multiple agencies, including the fire brigade and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport department. The building, featuring both residential and commercial spaces, had undergone maintenance by MHADA around 18 months ago and was considered to be in good condition prior to the collapse.
