An elephant calf, which had been separated from its group, was rescued at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve but tragically died on Sunday morning, according to officials.
This recent death marks a concerning pattern, as it represents the eleventh tusker to succumb this past month in the reserve located in Madhya Pradesh. The calf, discovered sick and abandoned in the buffer zone on Friday, had been under treatment until its passing.
BTR deputy director Prakash Kumar Verma noted the calf was found unconscious in the Panpatha range. A post-mortem is set to be conducted. Recent investigations also reveal that several other elephants died in the last days of October in the reserve.
