A nighttime fire in Quezon City, part of the Philippine capital region, resulted in the tragic deaths of eight individuals, with one person injured. The fire occurred in a three-story residential building primarily constructed of wood and broke out after midnight while residents were asleep.
Senior fire officer Rolando Valena reported that two victims were found on the ground floor, while six others were located on the second floor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. This incident comes just days before the Philippines begins its fire-prevention campaign in March.
This recent tragedy underscores long-standing concerns regarding enforcement of safety regulations in the Philippines, a country with a history of deadly fires, such as the 1996 Quezon City disco fire that claimed 162 lives due to blocked emergency exits.
