The Delhi government is considering establishing a Yamuna task force in collaboration with the Territorial Army. This force aims to protect the floodplains of the river, prevent encroachments, and stop illegal dumping of debris and waste. PWD and Water Minister, Parvesh Verma, discussed the initiative with the Territorial Army.
Minister Verma emphasized that the task force would enforce environmental regulations to protect the Yamuna. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP's governance, there is a commitment to restoring the Yamuna and addressing long-standing issues of illegal encroachments and waste dumping.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will formally communicate with the Territorial Army about this initiative. The Delhi government will fund the task force, which will patrol regularly and ensure compliance with land use and waste management regulations. This endeavor aligns with the BJP's promises to rejuvenate the Yamuna and develop the riverfront similar to that of the Sabarmati.
