Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra Join Forces for World's Largest Groundwater Recharge

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra for the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge project, set to be the world's largest groundwater recharge initiative.

The MoU, to be signed in the presence of Yadav and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, signals the removal of all obstacles to the project's advancement. The initiative follows the success of similar link projects, such as Ken-Betwa and Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal.

The Tapti project is designed to construct three river streams to maximize water usage for agriculture. Using 31.13 TMC of water, the project will mainly benefit northern Maharashtra and southern Madhya Pradesh. It's a strategic move to address irrigation and drinking water shortages without causing village displacements.
