Monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in Maharashtra, as officials report 18 deaths and 65 injuries since June 1. The State Disaster Management Authority confirmed incidents involving road accidents, drownings, and lightning strikes.
With the south-west monsoon enveloping the state, heavy showers led to water-logged streets and disrupted daily life. Notable districts like Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad recorded intense rainfall in just 24 hours, officials said.
The impact of the relentless rains has been compounded by six cattle deaths, adding to the list of casualties. Authorities remain on alert as the monsoon season continues its course in Maharashtra.
