The Indian government is poised to unveil a transformative policy allowing high-rise building construction in Delhi, integrating enhanced access to metro stations through elevated passageways. This initiative, championed by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, seeks to tackle the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and constrained land resources.
Khattar, speaking at the NDTV Real Estate Conclave 2025, stressed the urgent need for innovative space utilization solutions. With cities shifting towards Transit-Oriented Development, the policy aims to permit the construction of multi-storey buildings along metro corridors, significantly easing road congestion and commuting challenges in the capital.
The current urban framework limits residential developments to three storeys without high-rise permissions. Under the upcoming Delhi Master Plan 2041, the Delhi Development Authority is set to recalibrate these restrictions, facilitating taller structures with direct transit integrations, thereby redefining the city's architectural landscape.
