A devastating cloudburst hit the remote village of Jod Ghati in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported. The event claimed four lives and left six individuals injured overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
Access to the affected area was temporarily cut off by the natural disaster, which caused damage to local land and properties. A joint effort by the police and State Disaster Response Force, alongside volunteers, led to the recovery of four bodies. The six injured have been rescued and are being treated at a hospital.
Meanwhile, heavy rains have elevated water levels in local bodies, pushing the Ujh river near its danger threshold. The district administration advises residents to maintain caution and avoid the vicinity of swollen water bodies for safety reasons.
