Andaman and Nicobar Islands: A Future Economic Hub in the Indo-Pacific

Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor, Admiral D K Joshi, briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the strategic development plans for the archipelago, revealed official sources on Thursday.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on transforming the Union Territory into a critical economic hub in the Indo-Pacific. A significant rise in tourist arrivals, with domestic and foreign visitors increasing by 41% and 27% respectively, was also discussed.
Additionally, Joshi provided updates on the Great Nicobar Island project, including its greenfield airport and international container transshipment terminal. Site developments are underway, and offshore oil exploration was deliberated. Subsequent discussions with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and NSA Ajit Doval revolved around mega infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality projects.
