A tragic fire broke out at the nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane in Goa's Arpora village, killing at least 23 individuals, including three tourists. The venue, located about 25 km from Panaji, saw most victims as kitchen staff, with three women among the deceased, according to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that the loss of lives was 'deeply painful'. He assured that the local administration was engaged in rescue and relief efforts while extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
Sawant detailed that three victims succumbed to burn injuries while the remaining fatalities resulted from suffocation. He highlighted the urgent need for safety regulations as Goa's popular clubbing scene attracts many, and such incidents underscore the importance of stringent safety measures.
