Delhi's air quality has deteriorated significantly, registering its highest AQI of the season at 461, pushing the air into the 'severe' category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
The Commission for Air Quality Management has now activated the strictest control measures under Stage IV of its Graded Response Action Plan to tackle the serious pollution levels. This has led to a ban on all construction and demolition activities throughout the Delhi-NCR region.
Environmentalist Bhavreen Khandari criticized the current reactive measures and urged for systemic policy changes to bring long-term improvement. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department predicts moderate fog and stable temperature conditions for the coming day.
