The Kerala government announced a landmark decision on Wednesday to allocate five acres of land for the establishment of a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) under the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme.

The site, located in the Phase IV Technocity campus of Technopark at Melthonnakkal village, will be leased to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for an extended period of 90 years at a nominal annual fee of Rs 100 per acre, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

This strategic move, confirmed at a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, authorizes the Technopark's CEO to manage the lease. The new CFSL aims to bolster Kerala's forensic capabilities, aligning with national objectives to enhance scientific support in criminal investigations.
