China's Population Decline: Fewer Babies Born for Fourth Year
China's population has dropped for the fourth consecutive year with a record low birth rate. In 2025, the population decreased by 3.39 million to 1.405 billion, while the number of births fell to 7.92 million, marking a 17% decrease from the previous year.
China's struggle with declining population numbers continues as 2025 marks the fourth consecutive year of population decrease, official figures reveal.
The birth rate in 2025 plummeted to a record low, with births falling 17% from the previous year, totaling only 7.92 million new births, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Simultaneously, the country's death toll rose to 11.31 million, exacerbating the population decline at a faster rate than in 2024, fueling further concerns over the nation's demographic future.
