The Mumbai civic body has introduced revised sanitation bylaws, imposing substantial fines for various public cleanliness offenses. The penalties, ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 25,000, target 21 specific violations, including littering and improper waste disposal.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) aims to strengthen enforcement and ensure effective solid waste management with this initiative. These measures align with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and encompass detailed regulations for waste handling across different premises in Mumbai.

BMC commissioner-cum-administrator Bhushan Gagrani highlighted the initiative's objective to keep the city clean and hygienic. Violations such as spitting, open urination, and improper disposal of construction debris will incur severe penalties, reflecting the civic body's commitment to maintaining public spaces and ensuring sanitation.
