Delhi Takes Bold Step with Online Pollution Monitoring for Yamuna Rejuvenation
Delhi Jal Board is installing an online monitoring system to track pollution in five drains discharging into the Yamuna as part of a 45-point action plan for the river's rejuvenation. The initiative involves setting up decentralised sewage treatment plants and will be fully operational within three months.

The Delhi Jal Board is set to install a digital monitoring system to assess pollution levels in five key drains discharging into the Yamuna River. This effort, announced on Thursday, forms a core element of the region's 45-point action plan for restoring the Yamuna's ecological health.
Central to this initiative is the in-situ treatment of drains. Once the source and entire stretch of these drains are identified, additional steps such as installing in-situ drain treatment mechanisms and building decentralized sewage treatment plants (D-STPs) will follow. Furthermore, an online monitoring system is planned to ensure consistent oversight of these processes.
The selected project drains include Delhi Gate, Sen Nursing Home, ISBT, Defence Colony, and Jaitpur, all emptying directly into the Yamuna. Enhanced with CCTV cameras for visual monitoring, the system will track critical water quality parameters such as Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total Suspended Solids, and Dissolved Oxygen, as part of a three-year contract including annual maintenance contracts.
