Chandigarh Embraces Green Transit: 25 New Electric Buses Hit the Roads
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched 25 new electric buses in Chandigarh under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, marking a milestone in promoting eco-friendly public transport. This initiative will expand Chandigarh's electric bus fleet to 180 by 2026, aiming to phase out diesel buses by 2028.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a fleet of 25 electric buses in Chandigarh, as part of the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. This step aims to bolster the Centre's commitment to green public transport.
The event saw contributions from Punjab's Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. Mayor Saurabh Joshi, Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad, and other dignitaries were also present to commemorate the occasion.
Chandigarh's fleet is set to expand further, with 428 electric buses sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The scheme's goal is to fully transition from diesel to electric buses by the 2027–28 financial year, enhancing the city's commitment to sustainable urban development.
