The Maharashtra government has vowed to expedite the Patra Chawl redevelopment project in Goregaon, following concerns raised in the state assembly. Minister Shambhuraj Desai reassured residents and legislators that their grievances over delays and incomplete work are being addressed.
The Patra Chawl, officially known as Siddharth Nagar, encompasses 47 acres and was contracted for redevelopment in 2008. The project involved building new flats for tenants and allotting some to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). However, it has been beset by delays, leading to public outcry and legislative debate.
Opposition members describe the project as a 'classic case of corruption,' highlighting unoccupied units due to incomplete civil work. Desai stated that the government is ready to facilitate house handovers and investigate issues, while local disputes have hindered progress. Emphasis has been placed on adhering to agreements and ensuring transparent completion.
