A devastating landslide has claimed the lives of at least 50 individuals, leaving 125 others missing in southern Ethiopia, according to local authorities. The natural disaster followed a week of relentless rainfall, causing devastation across three districts in the Gamo Zone.

The landslides primarily affected Gacho Baba, Kamba, and Bonke Districts, as reported by Gamo Zone's director of disaster response, Mesfin Manuqa. Manuqa confirmed that one individual was miraculously rescued alive from the mud, offering a glimmer of hope amid the tragedy.

Communication chief for Gacho Baba District, Abebe Agena, revealed that most of the deceased were found buried under the heavy mud. The full extent of damage to households remains unknown as rescue efforts continue.
