A tragic incident unfolded in Palam, Delhi, as a fire ravaged a five-storey building, claiming the lives of nine family members, including three children. In a desperate bid for survival, a father and his young daughter leapt from the third floor, suffering critical injuries.
Eyewitness accounts revealed the inadequacies in rescue operations, criticizing the delay in fire tender arrival and the absence of safety nets or cushioning. As thick smoke enveloped the building, the rescue ladder could only reach the second floor, incapacitating those trapped above.
The building, located in the congested Ram Chowk Market, housed a cloth and cosmetic showroom on its lower levels. Following the incident, which saw 30 fire tenders and 11 ambulances engaged in firefighting efforts, the scene has been cordoned off for forensic investigation.
