The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for West Bengal, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts, primarily the sub-Himalayan areas. The adverse weather is expected to persist through May 4, owing to favorable wind patterns and strong moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal.
Districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar are likely to face the brunt of the weather with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected, while Kalimpong will also experience significant rain. Meanwhile, south Bengal districts including North and South 24 Parganas, Bardhaman, and others will contend with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.
Reportedly, various locations witnessed moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds on Wednesday evening, leading to cooler night temperatures. Amta in Howrah district received noteworthy rainfall, with a record of 97 mm over 24 hours, alongside significant precipitation in places like Salt Lake, Kolkata, and Dum Dum.
