In a move towards sustainable urban development, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched ten electric waste collection vehicles for the Municipal Corporation, Shimla, on Monday. This urban local body is the first in Himachal Pradesh to initiate such a transition, reflecting a commitment to reducing carbon footprints and promoting e-mobility.

The newly acquired fleet, each with a capacity of one tonne, proved their efficiency in city's terrain during trial runs. These vehicles, costing Rs 13.98 lakh each, can operate up to 150 km on a full charge, supported by new charging infrastructure at the municipal parking facility.

Chief Minister Sukhu stated that the initiative is a part of the state’s strategy to enhance environmental conservation, reduce operational costs amid rising fuel prices, and align with the envisioned green state agenda. The launch was attended by key cabinet ministers and officials, underscoring the government's commitment to environmental progress.
