Two minor brothers drowned in a stream flowing near Devamanal village in Himachal's Sirmaur district, located about 120 kilometres from here, police said on Thursday. According to police, eight-year-old Ayan and his nine-year-old brother, Abhinav, had gone into the forest with their father to graze goats, oxen and mules. Police said their father ventured deeper into the forest to search for mules when the children, while playing, accidentally fell into the adjacent stream and drowned. Police further said that by the time their father returned to the spot, it was already too late. With the assistance of residents, both children were pulled out of the stream, but they had already passed away, police said. Upon receiving information, a police team from the Sangrah subdivision rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to a government hospital in Rajgarh district for post-mortem examination. The death of two children has left the family and the village in a state of shock. Sangrah Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sunil Kayath said instructions have been issued to the tehsildar of Nohradhar to release immediate financial relief to the affected family. He appealed to the public to exercise extreme caution when in the vicinity of rivers, drains, and streams during the rainy season.
