Op Sindoor marked India's shift from restraint to proactive strategy: Himachal governor

Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday marked one year of Operation Sindoor and said it delivered a clear message to the world that India will never bow before terrorism. In a statement issued here, he said, ''Our armed forces acted with precision, determination and complete professionalism and today, the nation proudly salutes their courage, sacrifice and dedication to the country.'' In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year carrying out airstrikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir eliminating at least 100 terrorists. The strikes triggered a rapid escalation in tensions with Pakistan launching retaliatory strikes though most of them were thwarted by the Indian military. The hostilities ended with an understanding on halting the military actions on May 10 following talks over the hotline between army officials of the two sides. ''Operation Sindoor is seen as a major turning point in India's approach towards terrorism and cross-border threats. It marked a shift from restraint to a more proactive strategy. During the operation, the Indian armed forces showed their deep strike capability by successfully destroying 11 airfields and nine terror camps in Pakistan,'' the Governor said, adding that Pakistan was ''unable to cause any damage to India's military assets'' at the same time. Praising Himachal Pradesh for having given many brave and decorated soldiers to the country over the years, Gupta said the state has always held the armed forces in the highest respect. ''The hills of Himachal are filled with stories of bravery and sacrifice,'' he said and expressed gratitude to every soldier, as well as families whose sons or daughters have served the nation. The governor further urged people to honour the memory of Operation Sindoor by strengthening their commitment to national unity, integrity and a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism.
