An explosion that sparked widespread panic erupted late last night in the Ambattur-Korattur residential belt, police confirmed on Friday. The blast was traced back to a gas leak within a tightly sealed room at an unoccupied house near Venkatapuram, where a caterer had stored several commercial-grade LPG cylinders.
According to police officials, the sealed room allowed the leaking gas to accumulate, forming a volatile mixture. The presence of a spark led to a powerful explosion that demolished the room's walls and windows. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the building was vacant at the time.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area to manage debris and check for structural safety issues. They are currently awaiting results from a forensic investigation to determine further steps in resolving the incident.
