Heat wave conditions in southern, western Nepal districts
Some light rainfall may occur in a few districts of the Terai region and Western Nepal on Monday, said a DHM official.These are areas that are near Indias Uttar Pradesh, which is currently facing extreme heat conditions.As high temperature and occurrence of heat waves may cause simple to serious health problems for people, the NDRRMA also advised people to remain cautious.In Nepal, pre-monsoon showers usually start from February end and continue till May. This year, large parts of the country, especially the hills, received pre-monsoon showers.
Several districts in south-west Nepal may face extremely high temperatures apart from a heat wave in western Terai areas starting from Saturday till Monday, disaster management officials said.
Some areas in southern districts of Lumbini and Sudur Paschim Provinces may witness extremely high temperatures crossing 40 degree Celsius, warned a National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) notice.
Moderate heat waves are expected to affect some parts of the two provinces, the notice said, adding, six districts, namely, Banke, Dang, Bardiya, Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur are listed under districts where people are cautioned against high temperature and heat waves.
Sudur Paschim and Lumbini normally experience temperatures around 40 degree Celsius or more during summer, meteorological officials said.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) forecast no rain on Saturday and Sunday. ''Some light rainfall may occur in a few districts of the Terai region and Western Nepal on Monday,'' said a DHM official.
