In response to a surge in heatwave conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has introduced a fleet of water tankers and mist vehicles on major city routes. This initiative aims to comfort city dwellers and lower road surface temperatures.

The action follows soaring temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius in several districts, prompting swift action from JMC in strategic areas of Jammu city. Water sprayers and tankers have been deployed to moisten public areas frequently used by pedestrians and motorists.

Community involvement includes residents, traders, and NGOs creating temporary water points across the city, offering chilled water to those enduring the extreme heat conditions.

Additionally, an advisory from the Labour Commissioner instructs various sectors to safeguard workers against the persistent heatwave. Notably, districts like Samba and Jammu have faced temperatures well above the norm, with meteorological reports indicating severe conditions in four districts.

Public advice leans towards sun exposure reduction, increased hydration, and careful planning during the hot afternoon hours to minimize health risks.
