The Arizona Cardinals will give first-team repetitions to rookie quarterback Josh Rosen in the team's next preseason game, head coach Steve Wilks told reporters Monday.

Rosen, 21, was the Cardinals' first-round pick (No. 10 overall) out of UCLA in this year's draft. Veteran Sam Bradford is widely expected to be the team's starter, but Rosen is pushing him after passing Mike Glennon for the backup spot.

The Cardinals will face the New Orleans Saints on Friday in their second preseason matchup.

Wilks said he wanted to see Rosen play with the first unit and try to "get into a rhythm and really get the timing down with those guys."

During a radio interview earlier in the day, Wilks said the team did not give Rosen a fair chance in his preseason debut against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. Rosen dealt with several poor snaps from backup center Daniel Munyer and faced consistent pressure in the pocket. He finished 6-of-13 for 41 yards, with two of the incompletions a result of drops.

"He was under duress a little bit, particularly when you start with a low snap constantly," Wilks said to 98.7 FM's Arizona Sports Station. "I thought he did a great job stepping up in the pocket when given the opportunity, and we've got to do a much better job of protecting him."

Rosen shook off the issues up front when asked about them by reporters on Monday.

"A lot of stuff happens in football and I think what makes you a good quarterback is the resolve to not little things phase you like that," Rosen said. "It was no big deal."
