Worcester forward Du Preez to have surgery after injuring larynx

Worcester Warriors loose forward Cornell du Preez is stable but will require further surgery after injuring his larynx in Saturday's 21-20 defeat by Wasps, the English Premiership club said.

The South African-born Scotland international suffered a blow to the throat in the tackle just five minutes into his first game for Worcester since joining them from Edinburgh.

The 27-year-old number eight was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident amid concerns that he had fractured his voice box, which could affect his breathing.

"Cornell du Preez is stable and resting in the hospital. Further surgery will be required to his larynx," Warriors tweeted https://twitter.com/WorcsWarriors/status/1036296999698620416.

"The club is providing full support for Cornell and his family and wishes him a speedy recovery."
