Detroit Lions, Quandre Diggs agree to three-year extension

The Detroit Lions and safety Quandre Diggs agreed to a contract extension that runs through the 2021 season, the team announced Monday.

Terms were not announced, but the Detroit Free Press pegged the deal at $20.4 million.

Late last season, Diggs moved from slot cornerback to safety after Tavon Wilson suffered a torn bicep. In five starts, he had three interceptions and a forced fumble.

Diggs is expected to pair with Glover Quin at safety for the Lions.

"Quandre has developed into one of our core defensive players and we are excited to come to this agreement that will have him as a Detroit Lion for the next four seasons," Lions general manager Bob Quinn said.

The Lions selected Diggs, a Texas product, in the sixth round in the 2015 NFL Draft.

In his first three seasons, he appeared in 44 games (19 starts). He has 131 tackles three interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one sack.
