The Timberwolves did not detail any information regarding surgery or recovery, but a source told the Star Tribune that the team's 6-foot-11 center broke his right foot during pre-camp workouts and that he will have surgery in the coming days.

It marks the second straight year that Patton has suffered a broken foot before the season. Last year entering his rookie season, Patton fell victim to a fractured left foot which sidelined him for summer league and training camp.

Last season's foot injury delayed his NBA debut, with the former Creighton center playing 38 games for the Iowa Wolves, Minnesota's G League affiliate, before playing under four minutes in a game against Utah on April 1.

In April, Patton went under the knife in order to encourage "encourage further healing" in his left foot and the fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot from the previous injury last summer.

Patton, the No. 16 overall pick in 2017, joined the Timberwolves in a draft-night trade that brought star forward Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls for Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen.
