New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores will miss the rest of the season with soreness in both knees, manager Mickey Callaway told reporters on Thursday.

Callaway said that Flores has early-onset arthritis in both knees and will undergo injections.

"It's not like surgery is recommended at this time," Callaway told reporters before the Mets' game against the Washington Nationals. "I think rest and a couple injections are supposed to knock this out pretty good."

Flores, 27, batted .267 with 11 homers and 51 RBIs in 126 games this year. He saw most of his action at first base, starting 73 games and appearing in 83.

The Venezuela native has played six major league seasons, all with the Mets. He has a career .262 average with a .303 on-base percentage, a .424 slugging percentage, 68 homers, and 253 RBIs in 581 games.
