Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota took over after replacement starter Blaine Gabbert went down with a concussion in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Gabbert was examined on the sideline after taking a hard hit by defensive tackle Malik Jackson, then was taken to the locker room to be evaluated and diagnosed with a concussion. Jackson was called for lowering the head to initiate contact, and the Jaguars were hit with a 15-yard penalty on the play.

Gabbert had completed one pass on three attempts for 8 yards when he left the game.

Mariota was out of the starting lineup due to a pinched nerve in his right elbow.

Gabbert replaced Mariota in the opener against the Miami Dolphins, a 27-20 Tennessee loss, then got the start last week in a 20-17 win over the Houston Texans. Entering Sunday, Gabbert had completed 24 of 42 passes for 234 yards with one touchdown toss and one interception.

In practice Thursday and Friday this week, Mariota wore a glove with two fingers cut out of it hoping to improve his grip.

Also ruled out of the game with a concussion was cornerback Adoree' Jackson.
