The Denver Nuggets and head coach Michael Malone have agreed to a contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were not immediately announced, but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the extension will keep Malone, 47, under contract for two more years. His previous pact was set to expire at the end of the 2018-19 season.
Malone is entering his fourth season with the team. He has posted a 119-127 record, and the Nuggets finished with a 46-36 record in the 2017-18 season.
In 2016, he took over a team that finished 30-52 the previous season, and the Nuggets have improved yearly since. They finished one game out of the playoffs last season and have not reached the postseason since 2013.
"This is not about me," Malone told The Denver Post on Wednesday. "For the Kroenke family to show that kind of belief in me moving forward means the world to me and my family. But honestly, the best thing about it is getting that news out now so we can ... turn the page and get ready for the game tonight."
The Nuggets open the regular season Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Clippers.
Before being hired by Denver, Malone coached the Sacramento Kings in the 2013-14 season until December 2014. He was fired from the Kings after an 11-13 start to the 2014-15 season.
