Champion of 2018 Vuelta a España Simon Yates (Mitchelton) has announced his comeback to the Giro d'Italia in 2019. The British cyclist decided to participate in the three-week race in 2019, as he still has a victory to claim after being close to defending the 2018 title until a downfall at stage 19, reports Efe news.
"I will be returning to the Giro d'Italia next year. I am looking forward to it and I have great memories from last year with three stage wins. But of course, I would like to go back and try to finish the job off," Yates said in a video made available by Giro d'Italia's official Twitter account on Monday.
"It looks very difficult as always with the Giro, and next year with three-time trials it could be very tricky, maybe don't suit me perfectly, but I have to go and try to win anyway," he added. The 26-year-old Yates had earned three stage victories and maintained the overall leader's pink jersey for 13 days in 2018.
