NEW DELHI – Former India coach Lalchand Rajput has pinpointed Gautam Gambhir as the ideal candidate to steer Indian cricket forward. His remarks come amidst speculation about Gambhir’s potential bid to replace current coach Rahul Dravid post the T20 World Cup.

“Gambhir is a no-nonsense guy, he has played cricket the hard way and reads the game well, as evidenced by his impactful tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders,” Rajput said in an exclusive interview with PTI. Gambhir’s prowess as a two-time World Cup winner would add significant value, he added.

Drawing parallels between previous and current Indian squads, Rajput emphasized the importance of experience, urging for a blend of seasoned players with new talent. He also expressed support for Rishabh Pant as wicketkeeper-batter and Virat Kohli as opener in India's playing XI. Looking ahead, Rajput praised Madhya Pradesh's upcoming T20 league, citing it as a vital platform for local talent.
